About Me/My Birth Philospohy

Welcome to the greatest birth experience...YOURS!

My name is Jill Wilkey, LD, and I'm honored that you stopped by my site to learn about what I can offer your family, and your childbirth experience! I have been a labor doula since 2001 and have assisted in over 200 births.

How lucky am I! I have entered into a world of miracles. I have the honor and the opportunity to always be a part of the wonder of women having babies. It is with this in mind that I explain my philosophy on birth.

I truly believe in the power of a woman. They possess wisdom and choices, and the chance within themselves to do what is right for them. I also feel that women have an amazing emotional and soft side, which combined with this strength, can help overcome anything, including the pain and tenderness of labor and birth, with or without medication. It has been proven time and again that when provided with all of the correct information, the choices can be made by the laboring mother as to the care she receives for her and her baby, and they will be the best choices possible. This makes the birth itself, easier and less likely to involve complications. Childbirth is the most natural thing that a woman’s body can do. It was made to create, carry and bear offspring, in the most primitive of terms. Birth is true joy, true emotion, and true love.

My philosophy, and therefore my aim in being a doula and/or childbirth educator, is the experience itself. It belongs to the mother and her partner alone. To be able to enjoy this time, moms have to understand what is happening to their bodies, and be able to react based on this information. What I want most is to educate and support women about the process and to be able to go into labor and birth, knowing that this experience is only theirs and their partners, based on the communication that they have had. I believe in the unique power that a woman carries to know exactly what is right for her and her body, and to make informed decisions based on this.  It is my goal to help partners be more involved, if they choose, so that this experience is comforted, loving and supported for mom, instead of her finding it scary and unexpected.  The role of a doula is meant to help both partners by being a steady support and aid when the situation calls for it.

I want to be the help and peace that is desired during one of the most wonderful moments of your life! I want to help insure that the birth of your baby is everything that you want it to be.
