What is a Doula?

  What is a Doula?
A person with limited medical knowledge who provides care and support to a woman and her partner before, during and after the birth of the baby. A doula is trained to provide intense emotional support either at home with the laboring mom, or in the hospital environment. She will be there through changing hospital shifts and alternating providers.

The doula serves as a labor coach and a constant help; from contractions with breathing and massage to providing information to the mother and her partner. The goal is to work with a woman and her partner, physicians, midwives and nurses to enhance communication, understanding, and knowledge. When you hire a doula, a lot of pressure on the partner is also decreased, allowing him to participate as a loving companion and father rather than a coach. This can  increase the dad's enjoyment of the birth of the baby. In a perfect situation, a doula and the birth partner make the perfect support team for the woman, complementing each other's actions and comfort measures.

The benefits of my experience will help with the following:
·  50% reduction in cesarean section rates

·  25% shorter labor

·  40% reduction in forceps deliveries

·  60% reduction in epidural requests

·  30% reduction in analgesia use
